Feb. 5th, 2003 06:09 pmVentured into McCone hall this afternoon, seeking a particular journal from the Earth Science library. I had forgotten just how pleasant McCone is. The building is new and clean and there are interesting posters and displays everywhere. I would also have liked to major in geography/geophysics. (-: On the second floor (by the very cool Berkeley Seismological Laboratory) there is a Lehman seismometer on display.. it's very neatly made. I'd still like to make one. This house would be a perfect place for all these little projects if I weren't leaving in May/June.
Rebekah is coordinating a decal class on Hunter S. Thompson. Looks very cool -- and the first meeting featured the ultimate convenience of being held here at our house. (-: I think one of my goals for the near future is to publish something or at least generate some kind of recognisable intellectual output. The wavelets paper is hot in the queue.
I am already composing a to-do list for Geneva. Item-the-first has got to be the Paris catacombs. My impression is that Switzerland is in the middle of western Europe in some kind of cultural sense, orbited by France, Germany, Austria, and Italy, and also the tiny country of Liechtenstein. Geneva is located on tentacle-like structure sticking out into France, supported mainly, it appears, by the slug-shaped Lake Geneva. I'm tempted to say, therefore, that it's frightfully far from anywhere interesting, although that might just be a result of my peculiar ignorance of those "popular" countries of southern Europe. On the bright side, the Balkans seem convieniently located...
Oh yes, the other big/exciting travel-related news is that K (name obscured 'cause certain people don't want him leaving the country) is taking a trip to Iceland and Finland next week! I forget the exact reason, but, really, who needs a reason? He's going to be in Iceland for a few days and then fly to Helsinki (er, Helsingfors, haha) via Stockholm. And then he's promised me that he'll take the boat over to dear old Estonia. Aww, isn't that nice? K, I require postcards!!
