nibotSan Diego is a land of ceiling fans and screen doors. I think I noticed it first at lestat's -- two creaky screen doors give entrance to the place -- and here there's a ceiling fan providing a much needed cool breeze, and stark light from a bare compact fluorescent tube.
There are also these odd beetles. I do not know how they enter the room, with the two doors closed, but they do. They start buzzing around, which is annoying because of the noise and because i'm always afraid they'll land on me while I'm sleeping and crawl up my nose or something.
This fear is not completely unfounded. The one that appeared last night had a chance encounter with the ceiling fan, which propelled it directly into my face.
The best way to deal with these beetles seems to be to hit them with something, for example a notebook. The beetle goes into shock for a few seconds, so you can boot it out onto the other side of the screen door.
