home again (yet still quasi-homeless) in berkeley, after a splendid 1200 mile roadtrip with nadia up to the boreal regions of our state (hi [livejournal.com profile] bom!) followed by visit to the heathen inhabitants of the terra incognita that lies beyond.. now back at lbl hacking out final revisions on our paper.. cooked up some coffee... room temperature is actually tolerable... hopefully the brethren and sisters of the ancient order of meter maids will ignore my illegally parked vehicle for a few more hours. manuscript to follow...

oh, i nearly forgot.. the subject line of this post is the caption that someone added to my drawing of a square Koch snowflake on the whiteboard here.. wanna know something freakish? you can tile the plane with two sizes of Koch snowflakes.

Oh yes, Northern Cal is very beautiful. I drove along U.S. 1 past Fort Ross and then crossed over the mountains to U.S. 101 and drove all the way up to Crescent City (the drive took 11 hours...) and then spent a wonderful weekend (with two girls from Michigan :)) surrounded by BIG trees. After that I passed into Oregon and went up to Crater Lake. Very nice!
I have now set foot in 38 states in the U.S. Only 12 more to go. (13 if you count Iraq...)

Yeah, that's pretty much what we did. Hm, states? I've slept in Califorina, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Alaska, Oregon, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut -- that's 11. I've also set foot in at least Ohio (Chicago O'Hare airport), Florida (Miami airport on the way to Ireland), Rhode Island (while on the train to CT), Pennsylvania (Greyhound from Rochester, NY to NYC), but I don't think those count. You win.

Chicago is in Illinois :-)

I didn't mean to start any kind of competition. I have a theory that a lot of foreigners have visited more states than most Americans.

If you only count the number of states where I have slept, it's much less, Once I flew from Miami (FL) to Oregon via Atlanta (GA), Huoston (TX) and Detroit (MI). That's three 'new' states right there, but I never left the airports :-)

One day I will learn how to spell 'Houston'. I had it right the first time, but LJ ate my entry. I had to enter it again and I was in a hurry. Hence the mistake :-)
