I spent some time in Cody's this afternoon and found all kinds of books I'd love to read, the most promising among them being Paul Therox's Dark Star Safari, the narrative of his overland journey from Cairo to Capetown. Bringing Down the House ("The Inside Story of Six MIT Students Who Took Vegas for Millions") sounds like obligatory reading in hacker folklore; Tower of Babel: A Natural History of Language looks like good armchair-linguistics reading, and the introduction had me scratching my head because it sounded so much like a story that Charles Perry told me last week. Finally, Survival City: Adventures Among the Ruins of Atomic America caught my eye as well.

The Power of Babel. I bought the same book a few weeks ago. It is in a pile with all the other books that I decided to buy, yet have no time to read. (^_^)

Ah, cool. Might I borrow it sometime? I noticed that it's available in the Clairmont branch of BPL, but borrowing from a friend would be infinitely more convenient.

BTW, a few of us are going to watch Donnie Darko this evening (assuming I can round up a copy).. maybe in half an hour or 40 minutes. Want to join us? I think you know where I live.

Magically, taylan saw this LJ post too, and brought a copy of that book for me when he came to watch Donnie Darko. Thanks for the offer tho.. You'll still have to come by some time to watch a movie.

I'm glad you got a copy. You'll have to tell me what you think of it. I bought it out of curiosity but I haven't had the chance to read it.

I'm always up for a movie. Only reasons I'd miss a movie: a paper due the next day, a hot date or lack of money. (^_^)
