During the meeting yesterday I had cause to look up the acronym LMXB using everybody's favorite tool for such queries these days, and I quickly discovered that an LMXB is a type of neutron star. But more interestingly, I stumbled across Zhurnal, the online wiki-blog of a certain Mark Zimmermann, where he recounts tales from grad school and his thoughts on various matters, as one is wont to do in a blog of any form. But I found myself clicking the "random page" button throughout the rather boring meeting, flitting through stories, enjoying Zhurnal's writing and enjoying the ability to randomly navigate a web of thoughts engendered by the wiki concept. I like his writing, and I think we need to see more hybrids of blogs and wikis.

The entry titled Lost Inheritance struck a chord with me. Of course I am familiar with the quote from Hobbes—back from those high school days where we read from The Western Tradition back whem Mr. Koger et al led us on a path of liberal education. I couldn't help but think of the text in the context of our co-op, with our co-op in the role of "Society," the way we are building capital with an eye towards perpetual development, and building knowledge in figuring out how to operate our household.
