The U of R campus bookstore does not sell computer software.

There is a "computer store," located under the bleachers of the stadium.

I asked for Mathematica and was greeted with a blank stare. They seem to sell only Norton Anti-virus, some Endnote program, and various ipod accessories.

Mathematica and other "technical programs" are available for "special order."

Don't ever let anyone tell you that this is a real University.

Small university can work- of course the tuition is steep. CMU has some good things going in regards to software; we get Mathematica for free while we are students.

U of Oregon has all the major branded products under site license for all faculty (grad students). It's a benevolent service.

Well, at least they have Endnote.
It's a program for keeping track of references/citations when you're writing papers, or just reading them. It's supposed to be really useful if you can get yourself into the habit of using it.

As far as I know, Mathematica is heavily pirated here. UR may not sell it, but we certainly do steal it.

Yeah... I use it enough and can afford it, so I thought I might buy it. After all, off-their-rockers crazy academics need some source of funding.

Know if a Linux version is floating around?

Let's look at the facts:
1) "Computer store" under the bleachers...
2) when you ask for a common and kinda necessary computer program, you receive a blank stare.

Fact 2 seems to negate fact 1. Therefore, it's not a computer store, but a front. But for what? What do people do under the bleachers?

Of course! You're supposed to make out with the clerks, obviously! Go back there, but instead of getting Mathematica, get the proverbial "some."

Hmm, she was kind of cute.

Go back there, but instead of getting Mathematica, get the proverbial "some."
