So, funny story: Nina and I missed our flight out of ROC cause we were in the airport bar.

The bartender later swore he'd called out that our flight was leaving, but this was definitely a lie.

Fortunately the United representative was unseasonably amiable, and sympathetically booked us on the next flight to OAK, this time via Washington DC.

And so I got to actually meet Nina, which was enjoyable. Although for most of the time—transcontinental Airbus flight out of Dulles—we were trying to be unconscious.

My luggage was waiting at OAK, having taken a different route than I did. Thankfully KennyJensen was kind enough to pick me up at the airport.

Twelve hours of sleep and my reconstituted-alien-life-form sickness seems to have disappeared.

Went out with Jamie to the Bear's Lair for a beer--my first time there and her second. Reminisced about old times and future times.

Ran into Stephanie Young there, with a fancy new hairstyle and a fancy-suited boy in tow. I hardly recognized her. ("Pass this semester?" she asked.)

I introduced Jamie as my old roommate--"well, briefly. briefly but significantly." We were only roommates for ten days I guess but it feels like an era.

I stopped at the Zellerbach ticket office to pick up a ticket to see Thomas Friedman (the NYT collumnist) speak on Friday. Tickets are free for Cal students. I handed over my old but carefully kept Cal ID and tried to remember my Berkeley zip code and hoping they wouldn't check to see whether I was actually enrolled. Handed me a ticket and my ID, commented, "Pretty old ID, eh?" with a knowing look and smile. Issued July 1998. Never expires.

Hottubbing with discussion of fusion and international politics.

Purchased a bagload of books at Moe's.

I swear the coffee Jamie brewed up this evening was stronger than the espresso we produce in Rochester. West Coast Coffee is just stronger stuff. Thank goodness. That's why it's 04:30 already, eh?

Ahh, too bad we didn't have a phone conversation. I was up at that hour, too. I checked livejournal at about 3.

I can't believe that you missed your flight! That's classic.

Our flight was delayed by two hours.

So we wandered off to the "Passport Lounge" ("Cheapest airport bar in the America" they advertise).

Whereupon our flight was promptly undelayed and left without us.

hilarious!

Yes it did! Wait, no "the".

But very classy! I'll take a photo next I'm there.

Somehow I doubt it's actually true, but it's an admirable goal!

Yup. I love these things. =)

7:30pm, Zellerbach. Tickets are free with Cal ID if they have any left--they did a few days ago.
