alleycat race awesome
Feb. 8th, 2009 03:30 amAfter Jorge's General Relativity lecture on Friday evening I raced off on my bike towards downtown for Andy's first BR AlleyCat bike race, which is sort of like a scavenger hunt via bicycle. The warm, clear night was perfect for this, and I loved crossing paths with the other cyclists, everyone zipping around in urgent pursuit of their secret agendas. I also realized how much cool stuff there is downtown that I haven't yet properly explored! Here's what Andy had to say about it on his blog:

Afterwards we all gathered at Chelsea's for many beers and delicious foods. A good time was had. I'm looking forward to next month's event ("know your bridges and waterways"!).
Also: while at Chelsea's, I saw an excellent train go by, entirely composed of Kansas City Southern grainers (gondolas), a perfect train to hop...

Feb. 8th, 2009 05:19 pmAny DeLorean owners out there?
The LIGO arms are plenty long enough to get up to 88 miles per hour when driving on the access roads beside them. I propose that you drive your DeLorean down the road and we use our instrument to measure resulting perturbations of the spacetime metric.
deal?
