I have just two more photos from my 2003 central european / baltic tour. The sparsity of pictures is due in part to the limitations of the memory card on my camera, but also because, I guess, taking pictures wasn't the object of my trip.

From Stockholm I took the train up to Uppsala and stayed with my friend Erik, then flew on SAS up to Luleå to visit Nils. Together we took a little roadtrip up to Jokkmokk, up right above the arctic circle. It was already snowing.

Would anyone be interested in me posting the pictures from my trip to israel, jordan, and egypt? comment if so.

We got a late start on the garage sales this morning, which are also petering out as we move into autumn. Many trees are now turning bright yellow, and there is a smattering of yellow leaves on the street. I am sure the deluge is yet to come, however. We picked up Justin and head out to grab some bagels at Brownstein's, then checked out the one garage sale I'd noted as being nearby. Saw nothing there. Picked up a copy of the Democrat and Chronicle, and since Justin knew where a few of the addresses were located, we checked out a few more sales, finally ending up at one that was actually a neighborhood sale. Here we picked up two more director's chairs ($4 each) (bringing us up to four — enough for a conspiracy!), one of those globular ikea lamps ($4) (now happily installed in the living room), wine glasses (free), and, most stylish of all, salt and pepper shakers in miniature Absolut bottles (priceless)! I saw one garage sale listed that advertised "home brewing equipment," but sadly the ad seemed to not run today so we were unable to find it. After our usual morning garagesaleing, Ryan and I gathered for a more substantial breakfast at Mt. Hope Diner, blueberry pancakes, sausage, and coffee for me (mmmmm). Now it's time to work on grading.. grrr. Ryan's been scheming to have some travel adventures this summer, so now I'm scheming about where I could go, thinking about if I could work someplace in central europe or central asia (georgia, armenia, azerbaijan) (not likely). I think I'll try to take a language next semester.

This looks like a film that we should all see: Going Upriver: The Long War of John Kerry (imdb) (trailer) (showtimes). It's playing at the Little Theatre in Rochester and Shattuck Cinemas in Berkeley, and other theatres all across America. Watch the trailer and you might start to think more of John Kerry.
