wednesday:

Landscape: A brief history of the UC Berkeley campus; April 28, 1 p.m., 315A Wurster Hall; "UC Berkeley boasts one of the most beautiful campuses in the world, and it's no accident. Jim Horner, campus landscape architect, and Julia Monteith, senior planner, will lead listeners on a brief history of how the Berkeley campus landscape came to be. They will trace the campus's 140-year progress from open pasturelands to the developed campus of today through the influences of Fredrick Law Olmsted, John Galen Howard and Thomas Church. The unique attributes of the campus landscape will be described in terms of how each design period stands apart and yet relates to the other; how the formality of the Beaux Arts neoclassical core overlays the natural appearing picturesque glades coupled with modern interventions. The presentation will include a discussion of the recently published UC Berkeley Landscape Master Plan."
