a day in the park
Apr. 25th, 2004 01:58 pmI had no idea there was a Russian district in San Francisco, but there really is, full of shops with people speaking Russian selling Russian things. We prowl through the Russian stores -- the "Moscow and Tbilisi Bakery," the "New World Market" with all the good deli smells, and slavic food for take away. I buy halvah and wafer cookies and admire the borscht and stuffed cabbage and remember Latvia.
We go to a sushi-boat lunch across from Arby's and down the street from New World Market. Kenny says "I don't like food! But I like the means of delivery!" Who can resist it when it comes floating by in front of you in a little boat? Salmon rolls, barbequed eel, seaweed and mysterious other fishes. Afterwards, pumpkin ice cream at some cafe down the street.

Our mission was to see the buffalo (yes, in advance of the daily cal story), but first who can resist the yummy treats the city has to offer. We drive from summertime into the cold fog and into golden gate park. Each pay three dollars to see the conservatory of flowers. I'm feeding kenny the wafers.
Check out this crazy plant:

Here's Kenny posing with the carniverous pitcher plants:

We did find the buffalo, and then we drove back into the sunlight, meandered through Chinatown traffic, and capped off our day with tiramisu and hot chocolate in North Beach.
