I went in to LBL today and was promptly offered my old job back, this time converting some software to work with the new microscope to start up some electron tomography here in Donner Lab. There are also some materials science projects, and some small physics experiments, like measuring the effect of electron bombardment on the resistance of carbon films. Tomorrow I get to help out with that experiment; I'm excited.

Now I'm back in the CSUA office. The same old faces are here.. mconst and jrleek for two. And alexf just walked in. (You can spy on the office population with this nifty program I set up.) A girl came in to partake of our low-tech vending machine (take food/beverage from shelf/fridge, put money in box) and gave us some red/green 3d glasses, so mconst and I started looking at weird 3D electron micrographs of various insects. Coolness. I'm sad to see that we lost a bunch of books but at least the ones remaining are good ones, so I can get a little studying done.

No GSM service in Donner Lab. No GSM service in CSUA office. I think I need to hook up this phone and a TDMA phone and my GPS to my laptop and walk around campus to make a big map of what service is available where. Wouldn't that be nifty? It's almost as good as the "Tobin probability density" we once imagined, where I'd record my position with GPS for a week or something and then compute the probability density...
