and that's how I ended up in Ecuador
Nov. 14th, 2002 10:51 pmChecking out a book from the University Library today, my address popped up on the screen for the clerk to confirm.
``What is 1234 Warring Street?'' He asked.
``It's a co-op,'' I answered. Warring is Berkeley's Frat Row, although there are a few co-ops and private residences nestled in amongst the frats and sorrorities.
He asked which co-op it was and I told him, asking, jokingly, ``What, you don't check out books to fratboys?''
``It's part of the job,'' He replied, ``But, surprisingly, the situation doesn't arise all that often.'' Indeed, our neighbors and we regard each other with something like mutual suspicion.
