Jan. 7th, 2002 12:00 amToday I haven't done too much. Went to town for a Falafel. [``So, did you miss Falafel?''] Got a phone card, returned some books at the library, and got some new books. One of the books, which I've read half of this afternoon, is called The Lost Continent: Travels in Small Town America which is a Dave-Barry-esque travelogue by a Des Moines-born expatriate living in Britain who decides to return to the U.S. for a big roadtrip (er, `voyage of discovery'). Bill Bryson unloads most of his humor in the first chapter (``I come from Des Moines. Somebody had to.''); the remainder of the book consists mainly of complaining about how unpleasant he finds every town he goes through -- too touristy, too boring, too different from when he was a kid. His sour attitude becomes kind of funny.
It's a frozen world outside and I'd just assume sit inside all day drinking coffee or hot chocolate, eating kanelbulle while reading books from the public library, but unfortunately I have the annoyance of having to study for these exams that are sprinkled all about the winter season. Not that I'm actually studying. I should be re-taking the exams that I only got 4's on, but I'm not. And then there's the math exam, which I can retake next week anyway, so motivation to study for it is hard to come by as well.
So, I'm supposed to be studying for my math test which is tomorrow, but it's hard to do that. Instead I ate a banana pizza and then watched a show on TV about biological weapons in the U.S., Soviet Union, and Iraq etc, part of the `Varldens Vetenskap' series on TV. Oh yeah, and answering the ``Vad hande med ogat?'' question for the m-teenth time (``Jag var attakerad i Tallinn'').
Keith's invited me over for glögg tomorrow. I think it's quite funny what he wrote: ``Any chance you could come by the office about 5 pm? We could walk home together and have some glögg with Paddy. If she won't fix us dinner, I'll take us all out for a bite.''
the area around my eye almost looks normal again. However, the part of the eye that should be white is completely and uniformly red. The left sinus region / forehead hurts sometimes and it hurts sometimes to look in an `extreme' direction or to move my eye quickly.
