Dec. 21st, 2001

I set out in the morning to travel to Kristinehamn but before that I had to do a few things. I don't really remember all the things I had to do, but one of them was to ship out a Weizmann Institute application, which had been much delayed on account of me being sick and then occupied with exams. This task I did not complete and I ended up running to the train station (via the number one bus, or whichever it is that leaves from Kårhuset) and arriving with half a minute to spare. Nonetheless the train was two minutes late or such so I ended up waiting.

The train ride was for the most part uneventful. I took the Stockholm-bound X2000 to some city. It was snowing at the terminal there, and it was very beautiful watching the trains come and go in the falling snow there at the small depot. Mjölby was the name of the place. I got a korv med bröd and a stor kex and then boarded the 14:12 InterCity train bound for Hallsberg.

On the InterCity I received an SMS from Tony saying, ``If you get bored, Frederick is sitting two rows behind you.'' Haha, Tony is always watching! I looked around curiously but didn't see anyone I recognized. The message had been sent an hour earlier when I was on the X2000, so Frederick was no longer two rows behind me, but he was doubtlessly on the same train, Kristinehamn-bound.

Indeed, I met up with him when trying to meet the bus connection at Hallsberg. There were only three of us at Hallsberg who were waiting for the bus towards Kristinehamn. Some railroad official came out and informed us that the bus had been in an accident (busolyka) and we'd have to wait two hours for a train going that way. For the time being all trains from Stockholm has been canceled due to the snow storm. It wasn't snowing in Hallsberg, but allegedly it was snowing quite vigorously elsewhere in Sweden, and upon this account nearly all trains were canceled.

But they sent a special bus for us, and so the three of us continued towards Kristinehamn on our very own bus, through the snowy forests of central Sweden.
