Applying to grad school

[Where] should I go to grad school? Somebody must have some suggestions. I have only about a 3.5 GPA (weirdly decreased by studying abroad). I've pretty much taken the big-name schools off of my list, the schools like MIT and Princeton and, sadly, Berkeley. I don't think I want to go to UCLA. I've been thinking a bit about going back to Sweden for grad school, but I'm hesitant, as it's just so far away. I like Lund, I think I'd like Uppsala too, and Chalmers has an excellent engineering program. I'm mulling over the Weizmann Institute, but I don't like Rehovot all that much, and there are just too few students there. and the emphasis is too much on life sciences. Going up a notch, I think I'd like CMU, or maybe UIUC, and there are excellent universities in Canada, like at Waterloo and McMaster. I suppose I need to talk to someone who could give me a clue where I have a chance to get in, and then I can figure out at which of those I'd be happiest. I am interested in a PhD program in something somewhere in the intersection of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics. Hmmm.

Date: 2002-10-16 02:34 pm (UTC)Call me old fashion, but I think a 3.5 from Cal is pretty good. I mean look at all you have experienced and accomplished in your short lifespan! If I were on a grad school I would pick you to be in the class. I guess my philsophy when I apply to grad school is going to be just apply to as many as possible. Since I won´t have the chnace again to do it! But what do I know about engineering and compute science grad schools. I hate how the US is so competitive with that. I heard that Chalmers is really good. Also Uppsala would be a very nice place to study at. I want to study there! I think that this darn study abroad program is going to lower my GPA too sadly. Nancy is not nice at all and the new guy doesn´t know anything. Blah. At least I have one VG at least from my Geography Class! Swedish though is another story. Have fun and take care.
