This morning I waited patiently at the corner of Genessee Ave and Mt. Alifan Dr. for the number 41 bus, which would take me to work. The bus arrived and I eagerly climbed up the steps, showing my newly minted UCSD bus pass to the driver.
"You can't use that here."
"Why not?"
"You have to go up to Balboa."
"One stop?"
"That's right."
"Can we just let it slide this time?"
"Nope."
"You're kidding me."
"If you run, you can still make it."
And so the bus driver made me get off the bus and run to the next stop. Thankfully the bus had a red light and there were other people waiting at the next stop. When I climbed aboard again, I gave the driver a good glaring, but I don't think he noticed. Other passengers asked me what that was all about -- having witnessed me run from one stop to the next.
