These are rather irrelevent now, since I've resolved to work at UCSD over the summer, and attend Rochester or UNC/Chapel Hill.

Subject: Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships Program
Thank you for applying for a Summer 2004 undergraduate research internship with the U.S. Department of Energy. Unfortunately, you have not been selected for the upcoming term. These internship positions are very competitive, and we were unable to match every applicant with a mentor scientist.
We would encourage you to consider applying for Fall 2004, our applicant pool is much smaller for this term. Because of the smaller number of applicants, your chances of being matched with a mentor scientist are greater. Please check to see if you are eligible to apply for this internship.
Office of Science,
U. S. Dep artment of Energy
Dear Mr. Fricke:
The Physics and Astronomy Department at the University of Hawaii is pleased to offer you an appointment as a teaching assistant for the 2004-2005 academic year. The stipend associated with this appointment is $14,382 for twelve months. You will also receive a tuition waiver that is worth approximately $10,608. There is a student activity fee you must pay which amounts to $76 per semester. As a teaching assistant, you will be involved in either instruction of the lower division physics laboratories or in the grading of physics lectures courses. Since the on duty period for this position is nine months, you may supplement your income by applying to teach in our lower division laboratories during the Summer Sessions or to do research with one of our funded grants.
The teaching assistantship appointment is renewable for a second year, subject to satisfactory performance both as a student and as a teaching assistant. For subsequent years we encourage graduate students to arrange for a research assistantship in one of our research programs.

Subject: Unable to offer you admission to the Columbia graduate program in physics
The Columbia Physics Graduate Admissions Committee has completed its review of applications. I regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission. In due course you will receive a
formal letter to this effect from the Dean of the Columbia Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
Given the relatively small size of our incoming class of just under 20 students and applications from several hundred excellent candidates, we unfortunately could not offer admission to many highly qualified applicants like yourself. We do, however, sincerely appreciate your interest in the Columbia Physics Department and wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
Yours sincerely,
Lalla Grimes
