BusTrip

Over the weekend I hosted a group of seven students from a Polish university, doing a month-long road-trip around Europe in their restored VW Vanagon (Transporter). They called themselves "BusTrip".

I was really impressed by the organization of this group. The seven bustrippers didn't even know each other before the adventure started! Someone had sent out an email with the idea, and the group formed that way. They found sponsors and bought and repaired and restored the van.

They made the most of every penny. The nights that they weren't couchsurfing, they camped -- three people sleeping on a matress on top of the van, and the rest sleeping inside. One topic of considerable discussion was how to cope with a €60 parking ticket they got in Amsterdam. I really admire their adventurous spirit and ability to make the most of a real "shoestring" budget. It was a pleasure to provide them with coffee, showers, shelter, food, and conversation.

They left me a rather unusual gift: one day's Polish military field rations (MREs).
