The Old Art Studio and Wheeler Hall, Berkeley Campus. July 2004.

My friend Erin ([livejournal.com profile] erinmack) just got into Berkeley. I know Erin mostly through Livejournal, and I think she is incredible. We doubtlessly found each other via a shared interest in Scandinavia. I remember that she described herself as "a straightedge vegan queer living in an off-the-grid cabin in Ukiah," which I found utterly awesome. The following summer she hitchhiked all through Scandinavia. We had a date to go see the Corpse Flower. She has an awesome bicycle, and, as a heckler at a bus stop in the Mission shouted at us, is ten times more androgynous than you. I know that when we were all (not) getting into schools and grad schools, we all declared that we were going to dig ourselves in, fight the good fight, and apply again next year. Erin's the only one I know who did this, and she succeeded. If Berkeley is the place for anyone, it's the place for her. So congratulations to Erin! This is one of those seemingly rare times when the right thing actually happens.

Collapsed parking garage. May 4, 2006.

Recently the decay of Rochester became a little too literal with the collapse of this downtown wannabe-Guggenheim parking garage. Another photo.

Flowering trees. May 4, 2006.

One thing Rochester does right is springtime. These trees are right outside of my office at the U of R.
