new socks

In a fit of desperation, I drove myself out to the suburbs yesterday. I wandered the aisles of Borders briefly, until I couldn't take it anymore. (Excepting a few small hole-in-the-wall dealers, I believe there are no decent bookstores within the Rochester city limits.)

At Target I bought myself goodies:
- new socks!
- a clippy halogen lamp!
- notebook paper!
- a thermometer!

And now, dear reader, you are enlightened.
Tim O'Reilly is the publisher of all those familiar woodcut-animal covered computer books. It turns out that his brother James is an eager traveler of the world, and with another traveler friend and in conjunction the publishing company of his brother, they publish books on travel under the imprint "Travelers' Tales." I discovered this when I found their 'guide' to Spain on the shelves at the public library; it, like their other guides, is a nicely assembled, pleasantly printed compilation of short essays on the country under consideration. The series is good to read and may also provide a low-barrier-to-entry venue for the aspiring travel writer.

[edit: apparently "decadence" means almost the opposite of what I thought it did.]
