wood floor refinishing
Sep. 5th, 2005 05:38 pmThis floor we refinished turned out awesomely. A couple months ago we laboriously pulled up the disgusting urine/otherfluid-soaked carpet and spent hours scraping up the carpet padding that had turned into cement with the decades of icky fluids soaking through. During that process we must have unleashed some horrible Andromida Strain from years past and I became intensely ill for days. Anyway, we finally got around to sanding down the wooden surface and giving it a coat of polyurethane and it turned out beautifully.
Tori instructing Jon in the art of driving the floor sander:

That machine looks easy to drive, but I could not do it! It would just take off in some random direction, taking me with it. Jon only got thrown across the room a few times before he got the hang of it. We were quite impressed then at Tori's ability to just dance with it across the room, the machine entirely at her command.
Ben working on the edges and some tough spots:

Right after the last coat of polyurethane (still wet):

Compare the color in that photo to the first photo. (The color has evened out a bit now that the polyurethane has dried.) Now the surface is nice and glossy and sealed. Very nice.
