end of year cookout
May. 7th, 2005 02:07 amThanks to everyone who came to our end-of-the-year cookout tonight.
Brette asked me,"Is Friday okay for you? Because you're one third of the cook-out!"
But lots of people came and it was fabulous. Brette and Ryan and Micah and Viajy and Qin, Jon (from the co-op) and Heather, Dana (drove up from Cornell), Rosie (
limegreensneaks), Chris (from the co-op), Cori (met Ryan and me via Friendster) and Jessie, and Ruth (from Britain at Kodak). And Zoey and Mo-Simo and that other dog whose name I forget. Thanks to Brette for organising the whole thing, and to Ryah for bringing the loads of hebrew national hots, and everyone else who brought food. And everyone who came!
With the twilight over the lake and its quiet lapping at its banks, I was almost deceived into thinking it the Baltic sea and Ontario Beach Park (OB -- OCEAN BEACH) the Curonian Spit. But silly Monroe County disallows open fires everywhere, so no bonfire for us.
Met two new and awesome people--Rosie I met originally (but fleetingly) at the silly TA training that the Physics department puts on and all of the other departments send their new grad students to. She is a fellow first year, but in biology. We've kept in touch via livejournal but only finally met for real She seems awesome indeed. And Ruth is on loan from Kodak/England as I understand it, here experiencing the pleasures of the ROC via corporate junket.
Afterwards Ruth, Dana, and I hit East/Alexander for DANCING and afterwards the Lux for drinks and hot chocolate and a luxurious couch. It was, of course, grand.
