awesomeness
Apr. 17th, 2005 01:05 amAn excellent day today.
First: I bought Quantum Theory of Many-Particle Systems and A Guide to Feynman Diagrams in the Many-Body Problem for a grand total of $4.60, everything included, i.e. at a discount of 92%. awesome!
After breakfast at Mount Hope Diner, Chris met me and we biked up to Monroe Ave to see one of the houses (House C) we are looking at for Ant Hill Co-op, a giant 7-bedroom house in very good condition. We met Rudy there—all of us on cycles, because the weather was truly fine—and we toured the house. It's a great house and we pretty much all agreed we should take it. The only drawback is that it is expensive ($2100—that's expensive for Rochester!).
We then cycled down across Monroe to visit another house we're looking at (House A). After peering at it a while (we'd toured it earlier), we decided, no, this house is better! We'll take this one.
After this, Rudy and Chris cycled off in their various directions, and I rode a block over to meet up with Ryah and Brette. Ryan and I enjoyed frozen blackraspberry custard and fresh baked goods on Park Avenue, then rode down Alexander and East to the public library, where we were going to pick up some books on Mexico for our upcoming trip.
On the way there, somewhere near the Little Theatre, we were approaching some guys handing out flyers. One of them held out a flyer, a little quarter-page flyer, and I grabbed it while riding by, thinking it was probably for some event that I wouldn't care about. Looking at it, suddenly I saw a familiar image: ROCHESTER CRITICAL MASS. Holy jeebus!! I turned around--"Hey, who are you? I'm TOBIN!" For this was Marty (
notcliche), a guy who had contacted me earlier about propagandizing for critical mass. He's distributed something like 600 flyers for CM! It's gonna be awesome.
The public library wouldn't lend me books, because their "registers were closed" and I couldn't pay my fine. doh! Tomorrow!
At home I checked my email and saw another message from David, our potential new landlord (House B) for the co-op. He's really enthused about the co-op plan..... so instead of replying to the email, I just hopped on my bike again, biked down Elmwood, across campus, across the footbridge, doodled around in the 19th ward, and then stopped at his house... rang the doorbell... IT'S TOBIN !
We had a great chat and he showed me around more.. this place is grander than I first knew. It is clear that we must live there, and it looks like -- CROSS YOUR FINGERS -- we may have two houses to start. This just means I must start massive recruitment...
Well right now I am PUMPED because all the projects seem to be going so well: critical mass, ant hill co-op, and the wiki. Tomorrow is going to be a grand day too. We're cooking pancakes for breakfast (10am, you're all invited, 43 Westview Ter), then checking out House B-2, then bicycling to the lake!
