Bratislava scene report, etc.
Mar. 9th, 2005 03:07 pmLast time I was in Bratislava, it seemed that everybody who was anybody was drinking Mojitos. It was my introduction to the beverage, and MTV / Kenvelo were handing them out. This time it was for old times' sake.
I called Diane from the plane in London. "We're going to Slovakia," she announced. And so, hours after arriving in Budapest, we departed again for Slovakia. I dashed off an email to Brano beforehand: "I'm going to be in Bratislava this weekend—it's as much a surprise to me as it is to you!"
I was surprised how familiar Bratislava felt. I could navigate on foot easily, from memory.
Brano seems to be doing very well for himself and was a most enthusiastic host, as always. In the evening we attended the A Club (A for Architects'; it reminds me slightly of the Swedish student clubs) for dinner, and a birthday party at the new club Verdict. Brano ("man of the people, friend of the stars"!) is a co-host of the Slovakian equivalent to American Idol. One of the finalists joined us at Verdict. Brano bought a bouquet of helium balloons as a sort of disguise in escorting her inside.
Bratislava has a nice old town that seems to come alive at night with the light peering out of windows, multinumerous restaurants and bars and clubs hidden away in the corners.
No pictures this time (although Brano has some); but you can look at my pictures from my previous trip to Bratislava.
