I think we are going to Toronto today, as soon as Brette gets back from her cross-country skiing lessons. It's to be a short yet grand trip. We are going to see some show called "WAVELENGTH 250," which, bizarrely enough, seems to be taking place at an Anglican church. I emailed my friends Kaya and Iza from our summer in Geneve--they are both students at U.toronto. Amusingly Kaya lives in a 14-person co-op, and excitingly they are taking us out after our show. In the morning they are leaving on a 10 day tip to Gevena. I want to explore Buffalo on the way back, but I don't really know where to start. In the car I plan to read about irreducible group representations!

Last night we had a good little get together at Kris's apartment with the physics first-years (even though it's neither all of the first-years nor all first-years, these are the seven people who make up all our classes, pretty much). Here in Rochester, when someone says "Apartment," they don't mean an apartment in an "apartment building" like in California. Rather, Rochester is chock full of gigantic, beautiful houses. These houses have been subdivided, carved up into different apartments. So Kris's "apartment" is really the second floor of a "dual family" house, plus half of the "partitioned" basement. It's very awesome. But very frustrating if you're looking to lease a complete house. It was good hanging out outside of school. But disappointing that I couldn't convince anyone to come to Toronto.

After everyone else left, Kris and I set about to watch another movie, using the XBOX as a DVD player. But apparently this was impossible, for want of a remote control. The only buttons present on the XBOX itself are "Power" and "Eject," and the game controllers do nothing to navigate the DVD menus. Doh!
