[Dana's sister] Netta and her housemates threw a superbowl party tonight, a superbowl party for non-fans who rooted for "green" or "grey" and wished the game would hurry on up. Meanwhile we feasted on quite an array of terrible-for-you foods. I think the highlight was deep fried mozarella dipped in "white trash" cheese fondue. That even earned a round of applause, and an honorable mention from the Department of Redundancy Department.

It was nice to see new faces. The physics first years are ~ six bright and shining faces, but still the same six bright and shining faces every day. We don't ever see anyone from any other department, or really any students from any other years. Anyway. Netta's in psychology and has many psych grad student friends. At dinner they had a tendency to spontaneously break into analysis of those at the table—psych clearly comes up in daily conversation in exactly the way quantum mechanics does not. Apparently there is a weekly psych departmental activity where they get together and talk about their feelings. In exactly the way physics students do not. Psych students seem to be a lot happier than Physics students, oddly enough.

I also met two friendly chemists, Zach (pchem) and Inga (ochem). I think we'll need to invite them over here for one of our beer/poker nights. Inga is from Germany and Canada and seems particularly awesome. It turns out that Andy is friends with [livejournal.com profile] abbstract and the crew from the infamous 69/73 Crittenden, since he used to live there. I also finally re-met [livejournal.com profile] suomifrikki (Bekka), who [livejournal.com profile] four and I met at the EcoHouse halloween party last year. I was mildly apprehensive since when we met I had been a bit intoxicated and she was disguised as some Addams Family (?) character, but she turned out to be very cool and friendly, a linguist with an interest in finland (hear that [livejournal.com profile] inuy?).

This weekend was great. I definitely enjoyed time with Dana, seeing new parts of Rochester, and exploring the South Wedge with Ryan. This coming week: lots of homework to do (two quantum assignments, one math assignment [trivial], and one statmech assignment due), plus LIGO work. I think I'm going to put up wanted posters in the southwedge saying "Wanted: HOUSE". This coming weekend I think I want to go to Buffalo (maybe Friday-Saturday?).
At the beginning of last semester, I posted pictures from my Baltic states trip that I'd taken exactly a year earlier. What I'd like to do now is to post pictures and stories from the summer I lived in Israel, summer 2002. I think I will start this evening.
