Yesterday I tried to learn electromagnetism only to find that it was much, much too late. Problems that seemed easy a few weeks ago were suddenly completely opaque. At the exam this morning I pretty much drew a complete blank. I've never failed a class before -- so this might be the first time! Novel but embarassing.

Afterwards Brette and I had an awesome breakfast at the Mount Hope Diner (chocolate chip pancakes and sausages!) (with our many newfound subjects for gossip!) and then wandered up to the lake. The lake was very smooth, in blues and grays, with flecks of ice piled up in the surf. Wet sand froze into bricks, which broke off when undermined by the surf. We threw stones at the 1/2" frozen surface of rivulets. Ate frozen custard at Abbott's.

After a much needed nap, I had dinner at Brette's house with Qin and Autumn (a co-worker of Brette's). Brette made enchiladas, composed partially of tofu. Very yummy and quite spicy. Autumn seems pretty cool. She seemed quite interested in the co-op, & also she has a friend with a hot tub in Rochester. With Micah and Vijay, we all went out to see A Series of Unfortunate Events (the best part is the credit sequence).

Tomorrow I have to learn mathematics!

Winter has, apparently, arrived. Frankly, I'm relieved.

[weather report: -1 F and 'bitterly cold']

Right on schedule, too.
