GRE in Computer Science. Took it in a very sleep deprived state (is there any other way to be at 08:00?) and it seemed to go fine. Registered "standby," had to run around the testing center asking people in all the rooms if they had a GRE registration form. They don't have them at the testing center... you're supposed to bring it with you.. they're omitted from the online copy of the registration materials. I hate ETS so much. The people at the testing site didn't even know what tests they were administering: I asked for the "C.S." test a few times ("Huh??" "Huh??") and then the "Computer" test ("We don't do computer-based testing here.") — keep in mind there are several hundred people taking the GRE in computer science. But then finally I found a form and the elderly test-proctor guy let me into the testing room and said that I had a nice german name and he spoke to me in german and then told me about his swedish girlfriends from days gone by. I hadn't asked.

Sleep again. Dishes. Rain, rain, rain — so no trip to the City. (The weather makes me feel like a trip to Manhattan, with the lights and the rain and a sort of pre-festive atmosphere...) Kris and Kristy go home. Berkeley Art Museum, Fall Festival — Sam performing with the Korean dance team. dinner at Thai Basil. Home to hot chocolate and The Silence of the Lambs and David Lynch's Blue Velvet (the references to `Frank' kept making me think of Donnie Darko — weird, huh?). A good, full day.

In this experiment we place copper foil in the beamline and intend to measure the rate at which alpha particles transmutate the copper into a certain isotope of gallium.
