Today is Day 73 of what I like to call Expedition Two, counting somewhat arbitrarily from the day of Engineering Commencement (rather than my departure from the U.S. as before), since that's about when the random fun began for real. Expedition One was eleven months in Sweden, three in Israel, and random side trips to ten other countries. It's funny when the time wraps around after a full year. That's not going to happen this time.

On Day 98, Expedition Two will commence its second phase: travel. It's around the corner now and I'm excited by it.. It's time to start preparing.. getting visas, reading other people's travelogues, arranging connections. This time I'm going to Poland! Then up through the three Baltic republics to our dear old Estonia, where I'll again catch the ferry to Stockholm. From Stockholm I'll fly SAS youthfare up to Kiruna, visit Nils in Luleå and together the two of us will ascend Kebnekaise, Sweden's tallest mountain. Then down to Lund again on SAS via Goteborg; I shall again dance in the discotheques of the Nations, eat yummy falafel, buy CD's of Kent and the Cardigans, and so on. Visit Copenhagen and the Danes, then fly back to Geneve.

This Baltic plan is at the cost of my Balkan plans (Croatia, Yugoslavia, etc). I will have to leave the azure seas and tropical fishes to another time, in favor of the arctic tundra one more time...
