a simple entry
Jun. 7th, 2003 03:18 amI stayed up last night until the sun was shining — I was kind of tickled by that since it reminded me of Sweden (where the sun rose at 04:00 in the summer), the country I left almost exactly a year ago. I'm excited about travelling again. Reading over my entries from a year ago I recall all the suspense and anxiety of that move from Sweden to Israel. Frantic packing, sleeping at Copenhagen (Kastrup) airport, haggling over my excess baggage fee (down to $200 from $400), and hoping I wouldn't be turned away at the Israeli border (I had only a one-way ticket to Israel — a big no-no) — all ingredients for a good adventure. It turned out beautifully though. The flight was one of the most comfortable I have ever experienced, and just hours after arriving in Israel I was relaxing in the warm mediterranian sea in the company of my advisor and her family. I hope that this summer measures up.
This evening Kenny and Matt came over and we all (them and I and my parents) went out to a mexican restaurant in San Juan Capistrano. It's nice to be back in Orange County and visiting people here. I'm pleased that my time here is so short, since it makes it more exciting. Paul came over and Matt made his famous brownies. I was a little disappointed that I couldn't rustle up a bigger crew. Heard from Philip. I even called Stephanie but she wasn't home. Anyway, it worked out well. It's kind of funny that Kenny's family lives here in Orange County now — it's not often that I meet a friend at Berkeley and then they become an Orange County friend too.
