Bumped on over to UC Davis last night on the 18:30 inter-campus shuttle. The shuttle was all booked up with reservations but luckily six of the eleven people didn't show up — all the stand-by passengers could travel, with room to spare. Davis boggled our minds with its sheer, yes, mind-boggling flatness, where staircases seem to be erected gratuitously just to lend some vertical relief. But the campus also has spatious tree-lined quads and grassy fields, leaving me pondering a Californian Lundakarneval... well, I suppose they have Picnic Day. Drove home to Berkeley in the VW van.

The plan for today is to jet out on some camping enterprise, something like HUMBOLDT OR BUST, TAKE II. But first there's work to be done, splorg.org to be relocated, maps to be found, food to be provisioned. Now, to the modeling of tetracyanoethelene...

When I announced to Ken that I would be "disappearing for awhile," I could see the sudden panic in his eyes. A quick "but I'm coming back in 2.5 days!" relaxed the situation and I was able to secure, yes, time off of work, based on my sworn promise to be in today at a bright and early 8:00 in the morning — an occurrence that would be totally without precident. Ah, yes, the cause for this disappearance was the stated mission: to have an adventure. After just n weeks (for small n) of togetherness, Nadia ([livejournal.com profile] nawl) and I declared the need for an adventure before our tragic separation, and to me adventure virtually means road trip, and so that became the plan.
