Apr. 5th, 2003 02:53 amWhoah, very busy week, now finished. Still lots to do.
When Chris set up the Secret 2018 Diary, he wrote something to the effect of, "This is a project to record the mundane details of our lives... I have a theory that, when we look back on this, it will have meaning." So, here goes today:
- Alarm clock 07:00. Went back to sleep -- too drowsy, from benedryl I had the night before.
- 08:15. Actually get up. Breakfast: 2 packets `Apples and Cinnamon' instant oatmeal, 2 packets `Maple and Brown Sugar' (separately).
- 09:20. Arrive at work. Read more about the Fienup algorithm.
- 11:20. Go to lunch with my mom at Cafe Intermezzo. I have the sandwich (Bacon-Lettuce-Tomato-Avocado) and Soup (split pea) combo. Mom gets sandwich (roast beef) and salad combo. My sandwich is quite yummy but actually quite small. Mom gets a `half sandwich' that could have been a whole sandwich. we split it.
- 12:10. While we are walking back to campus, mom spies Chris inside Coffee Source. We go in -- I've never been there before. Chris is working on his homework and seems to be in good spirits. We come upon the plan that we can share one cap and gown between us for graduation, since Chris is only going to Physics graduation (on the 22nd) and I am going to Engineering (on the 24th). Mom and Chris compare notes on knitting. We all walk back to campus.
- Mom and I go to visit Ingegard, my old Swedish teacher. She's very pleased to see us, and apparently it's very fortunate that I stopped by just then, as they are planning a get-together for this sunday. Ingegard is going home to Göteborg for the summer but will be teaching Scandinavian 100A again in the fall.
- 14:00 I go back to work for a little while. I was supposed to meet with Chuck, a very cool guy who works in our lab, but he was still off at the Lake Merit "hold hands for peace" thing.
- Implemented the Fienup algorithm in Matlab to do reconstruction of a duck from fourier magnitudes and compact support. The magnitudes outside of the support seem to go to zero (asymptotically) but the convergence to the duck is very poor. Not sure what's going on.
- Say goodbye to mom, who is going back to Davis via the inter-campus shuttle, and then taking Amtrak home. For some reason she is leaving the Vanagon with Kris in Davis. What are they thinking?
- Help out Paul at work with some programming in Borland C++Builder. He's writing a program that talks to a D-to-A converter and controls the voltage (some number of kilovolts) going to the microscope. My vague memory of Borland Delphi comes to the rescue and I'm able to solve his problem. Yay, I finally feel useful at work!
