Went to Rocky Horror and Hedwig at Wheeler this evening with the House. Then came back for some fresh kingpin donuts and Zima (Jeff was inspired by the scene in Hedwig). An odd combination, but good. House outing, great! Now to get some sleep before the programming contest!
*Yawn*. I've just woken from a much needed nap and I'm contemplating how to spend the rest of my Saturday. This morning I reluctantly extracted myself from the cozy flannel-and-down environs of my bed at much too early an hour, for the purpose of attending this year's incarnation of the Berkeley Programming Contest. It was a good contest. Karim and I worked in one of the SunRay labs; I'm not sure where everyone else was, but it was pretty quiet, which is too bad, because I like the atmosphere of tension and intense concentration when everyone's working in there and the hour is counting down... Anyway, I did pretty well this year, solving four problems! I think that puts me in fourth place, a lot better than the ~23rd place of two years ago.

Walked home just as the Cal-UCLA game was beginning and campus was crawling with parents and alumni all dressed up in blue and yellow for Homecoming; someone must have scrambled two F-16's for an overflight as we were treated to them and the roar of their engines just as the game began. And soon thereafter the cannon announcing California's victories began to echo throughout Southside. The fratboys and the sorrority girls were all out on their porches, starting the barbeques, the fratboys in their baseball caps, the girls in their tight shirts with Cal logos. It's not something that I'm at all a part of, although sometimes in a weird way I wish I were. Rarely. In any case, I think I'm glad it exists. It's nice to see comradery and spirit on this campus. Cal won, too, so now follows the usual jubilation across Southside...
