May. 2nd, 2002 12:00 amRobert Nilsson sent me a message (personally?) saying that pictures from Sista April are now on the net, so I went to his site and looked through the pictures... Well, well, remember way back then on 2002-03-23 I complained that I didn't appear in any of the pictures? Well I certainly do now. Dunno if I was just blind the first time I looked or what, but this was a shocking discovery. I quite like this picture.
I don't know whether Robert Nilsson is some kind of official Nation photographer or just a normal mortal, but I think it's quite nice to have a photographer around, taking all these pictures. I know there are many who would rather not have these lasting records, but, well, given my journalistic compulsions, it really puts me at ease. Now if only I could find someone to write all this stuff too... (I'm becoming dependent upon the ability to run grep
on my life.)
The most interesting thing I did today was to see the final FilmStudion film for the season, the Icelandic Englar alheimsins (Universums Änglar, Angels of the Universe), Friðrik Þór Friðriksson's film direction of the book by Einar Guðmundsson. The imdb reviewer's description of Englar alheimsins as ``a beautiful and compassionate film'' is really spot-on; the film is without question beautiful and compassionate. The pace is sympathetic, and the tone of the film reminded me very much of that of the other Icelandic film I've seen, 101 Reykjavík (on 2002-03-13). Is this ``definitive Icelandic film''? This is definitely a film I will be seeing again. (``Stackars verkligheten!'' ``Är du också ombord?'' ``Var snäll och ringa till polisen'' ``I'm here to talk with the genius'' Hegel and Nietzsche, Hitler and the Beatles... ``God, is dead.'' ``Who killed him?'' ``Nietzsche killed him.'' ``How?'' ``He said that God was dead, people thought about it, and decided it was true.'') Regarding subject matter this film reminds me of one I saw in high school where the inmates of an asylum escape, but eventually lock themselves back into the asylum when they realize that the outside world is crazier; unfortunately I can't remember the title.
Listening to Call and Response. I guess Chris must have downloaded these songs to my computer? Otherwise I have no idea where they came from. Anyway, they remind me a bit of Little Tin Frog. Then again Dance Hall Crashers remind me of No Doubt, so that should tell you how much to trust me on these things.
