An Aviation (http://www.kaiserpenguin.com/recipe-comparison-the-aviation-cocktail/) is a nice cocktail that's not too obscure, such that any decent cocktail bartender ought to be able to make you one. (The drink, not the brand of gin.) That's a nice starter for fancypants Prohibition-era gin cocktails.

Every bar I've been to in Seattle carries Hendricks. Sadly, I don't think any in LA do.
