What's your drink?

include recipe if not obvious!

Lemonade. Mmmmm.

/not a drinker

[identity profile] nibot.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
How do you feel about sweet tea?

[identity profile] indomitability.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I like some iced tea, but it has to be sweetened with sugar, and not so much that it'll induce diabetic coma in anyone, regardless of how well their body produces insulin. Most sweet tea I've had is way too sweet.

In the summer, I'll make a lot of iced herbal tea... Lemon, raspberry, hibiscus, etc. Good stuff.

Cranberry and vodka. Pretty much anything and vodka, actually.

[identity profile] nibot.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Lately: bourbon on the rocks.

[identity profile] rosiedee.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Always, always, a classic gin and tonic.

A favorite bartender of mine shares my predicament of having been born 70 years late, and so he makes me the most wonderful, obscure gin cocktails that haven't seen their heyday since the 30s. "The Last Word" is my favorite drink of all, but who can make that for me when I ask?

last word

[identity profile] nibot.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Mmm—sounds delicious!

[identity profile] rosiedee.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
The Corpse Reviver No. 2 is another obscure, delicious favorite. I guess it's supposed to be a hair of the dog sort of drink, like a bloody Mary.

[identity profile] sivart13.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
I always order a gin and tonic because I don't really know anything else that exists.

I need this fancy bartender to show me the world of gin possibilities.

[identity profile] rosiedee.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
An Aviation (http://www.kaiserpenguin.com/recipe-comparison-the-aviation-cocktail/) is a nice cocktail that's not too obscure, such that any decent cocktail bartender ought to be able to make you one. (The drink, not the brand of gin.) That's a nice starter for fancypants Prohibition-era gin cocktails.

ha! love the icon!

[identity profile] codetoad.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Same for me and whiskey sours.

[identity profile] suomifrikki.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
what is in the last word?

[identity profile] ankaerith.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
tzjin-anthony-ks for me as well.

Every bar I've been to in Seattle carries Hendricks. Sadly, I don't think any in LA do.

tzjin-anthony-ks, hendricks

[identity profile] nibot.livejournal.com 2008-10-17 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
what's that?

Re: tzjin-anthony-ks, hendricks

[identity profile] ankaerith.livejournal.com 2008-10-17 07:42 am (UTC)(link)
tzjin - an - thonyks.... gin an tonic.

http://www.hendricksgin.co.uk (http://www.hendricksgin.co.uk/us/about/index.asp) is the best damn gin out there and I've tried most of them. The secret: cucumber.

Scotch or Irish on the rocks. Bourbon will do in a pinch.

[identity profile] yami-mcmoots.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Hazelnut milk with chocolate syrup. Not sure yet how best to make this one alcoholic; Godiva liqueur is too expensive. Maybe kahlua.

At bars, I drink beer; usually an amber or wheat.

[identity profile] vyncentvega.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
BEER.

Mixed shenanigans are for people who don't know how to drink beer.

[identity profile] evan.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
White russians for special occasions.

[identity profile] nibot.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
I thought you were a drinker of fancy whiskeys?

[identity profile] evan.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
For other special occasions, yeah.

I actually like pretty much everything and only draw the line at "cheap" (= more likely to make me feel bad).

Tequila.

No, wait, Mind Eraser.

No, wait, Long Island...

I was all about White Russians and Black Russians for a while.

Do I have to choose?

[identity profile] nibot.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
what's a 'Mind Eraser'?

[identity profile] kaolinfire.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
It's a layered sipping drink best experienced in one sip. :)

2oz vodka, then 2oz kahlua, then 2oz club soda. drink through several straws.

http://www.monkeysee.com/play/2293-vodka-drinks-how-to-make-a-mind-eraser <-- video, though I prefer off-the-rocks, more layered. But it still layers well enough.

[identity profile] natan.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Often: gin and tonic. Lately/rarely: salty dog.

[identity profile] reverend-kate.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
Scotch.

[identity profile] janviere.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
Water...

[identity profile] antiabecedarian.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
wine (red)
whisky (neat)
water (mmm.... )

I keep trying to drink gin & tonic since it gives me the best euphoria but it turns into a bad headache too quickly.

You didn't say what yours was!

[identity profile] cherryspecial.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I really like a sidecar, but I usually drink whiskey and soda water because no one can make a sidecar.

[identity profile] aepfelx.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
whoa, looks like i'm late to the gin&tonic fan club meeting. sign me up.

also, 2 parts diet tonic water + 1 part cranberry juice.

[identity profile] suomifrikki.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
currently: dark and stormy (myer's rum, ginger ale/beer, lime juice)
also good (esp for hot weather): gordon's cup (gin, cucumber, lime, simple syrup)
also: pink pussycats (gin, pink grapefruit, pineapple)

[identity profile] shamster.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
The past 2 weeks I've started every morning with 1/3 coffee, 1/3 kalua, 1/6 irish whiskey, 1/6 creamer.

I call it "Breakfast"

elixir of life. (it has a lizard on it and is supposed to be cranberry grapefruit flavoured)

blue powerade.

lemon drop.

g&t

blueberri stoli tonic.

although, i don't drink alcohol anymore because i'm an alcoholic.

[identity profile] nibot.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
At first I thought you were talking about a drink that included a real lizard!

better than a petrified human toe (http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/7229)!

[identity profile] random-walker.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
bourbon or rye, either neat or diluted to about 70 proof;
martini, 9 parts Bombay (not Sapphire) gin to 1 part Noilly Prat dry vermouth, ideally with a lemon twist, but never an olive.

[identity profile] cheeseparade.livejournal.com 2008-10-13 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Salty Dog mmmmmmmmmmm!
gin, grapefruit juice, salted rim

Have you been to Custom Brewcrafters (http://rocwiki.org/Custom%20Brewcrafters)? That place single-handedly raises the quality of life in Rochester by +6dB.

p.s. I ♥ Côtes du Rhône—we drank many €2 bottles of it at CERN!

What will you be drinking on Wednesday?

[identity profile] joneshead.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
bloody mary

[identity profile] cassiusdio.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I love bourbon, scotch, and most other whiskeys on the rocks. If you enjoy bourbon, I highly recommend George Dickel (which is not technically a bourbon). There are only two Tennessee whiskeys in production, Jack Daniels and George Dickel. Dickel is cheaper and amazingly delicious. Everyone I've ever had try it has agreed.

Also, Campari and soda for a change (blast of delicious biterness, but it's too sweet for my palate these days.

Manhattans are the best of the classic drinks in my opinion. Just go easy with the vermouth.
