shirt tail ritual
One of the long-standing peculiar traditions of aviation is that they cut off the back of your shirt immediately after your first solo flight.

Heh heh...awesome!
The idea behind the tradition (you probably know this) is that you're getting "your tailfeathers clipped". This is to keep the young student who has just tasted flight from flying to high and too far, too soon.
