mtn goats on archive.org

tMG in NOLA

It turns out that our old friend archive.org not only archives the internet, but live music recordings as well, as might be made by concert-goers such as yourself. In particular I've been enjoying the recording of The Mountain Goats at Park West, Chicago from this past October. I think I love the live-show recordings even more than the ones done in the studio: I can't help but love the audience cheering and singing along, the stage banter, glasses clinking, and even the talking in the background. The same guy who made that very good Park West recording apparently also recorded the New Orleans show here in Louisiana. I think I like the Chicago show better (the fans are more enthusiastic), but the New Orleans show does have a cool intro and a longer setlist.

you forgot to mention that the bass is usually mixed louder than on the albums ;-)

Not only that, but the bass on the albums doesn't come with an invariably stylin', oft-tricked-out suit.

I definitely cut my teeth on tMG live shows back when _cassette_ was the primary means of transfer. I still have countless lines of dialogue memorized*, though I've heard a far smaller percentage of the live shows now that there's so goddamn many.

* Such as the one about how "Swedish women love Peter", ha!
