burning man II

True Prophet camp layout

Unfamiliar with all its various interlocking parts, I am impressed to see how True Prophet's camp is coming together. For instance, I haven't seen any piece of the grand "sand worm" shade structure, and yet allegedly other Prophets are busy working on it.

I have not yet arranged transportation for myself. Burning Man takes place near Gerlach, Nevada, which is about a hundred miles north of Reno. I am highly tempted to try hitchhiking US-395 to get there. A roadtrip up 395 is almost as exciting as Burning Man itself!

Dont hitchhike 395. Extremely hot. You will be a crispy Tobin. Also, gear?

You're going to have a blast! Wish Rand and I were going this year.

Yeah, it does look pretty brutal. I was thinking things would cool down after Mojave (forecast for 100F all week), but it's even hotter in Bishop (103F!) and just as hot in Reno. Hm.

Do you have any recommendations for preparations or things to do?

By any chance do you have any spare playa paraphernalia (like goggles) that I could use?

It's really fucking dusty this year. Bring both daytime and nighttime goggles. Bring dustmasks. If you can, bring a bike with fat tires. Bring extra tarp/plastic and duct tape to seal your tent.

I do have a great list my friend builds. whats your preferred email destination for such a file?

If you can get yourself to Berkeley/Oakland by Sunday Night I can give you a ride in my car. We have one extra space. We are renting a trailer so space for gear/bikes should not be a problem.
