Apparently sometime in the 80s, Caltech had the option of buying the Pepperdine campus. Is there any question over how awesome that would have been? On the other hand, I would never have gotten any work done. But it would have been awesome nonetheless.
I have heard a different variation of the Pepperdine myth—that Throop College was given the option of land that later became the Pepperdine campus but Millikan refused it.
And what about the Caltech landscaping budget--do you know if there is truth to that legend?
I'm not actually sure; I never bothered to verify the rumor, but I heard it from a prof on a field trip at Malibu Creek and I was dreaming about how neat it would be to have the rocks so nearby.
Landscaping budget...I heard various figures over 4 years.
I've definitely heard the legend of the landscaping budget several times before. There's gotta be some truth to it, although I'm not sure how big the donation was...
oh, but we could compromise. if just the ugly dry-grass parts were paved, a few hottubs installed, maybe an abercrombie or two... an in-n-out burger here or there... it'd be the best of all worlds!
(okay okay, don't hurt me. it was supposed to be funny)
