[co-op] classified ad!

coop-classified We took out a classified ad for the co-op (clicky clicky on the thumbnail for a legible version). I think it's kind of hilarious: we advertise rent, utilities, FOOD, hot tub, garden, bike workstop, ..., for $438 per month. Immediately to the left, an ad for an apartment says "From $550 includes heat and hot water." Nonetheless we've only gotten about five calls from the ad.

but...

...c'mon dude, I would still wet my pants if I saw a 2br for $550.

I'm jaded enough (one too many horrible co-housing situations) at this point in my life that I'll pay four times as much rent not to have to live with other people. (I wish there were a way to guarantee respectful housemates who know how to clean up after themselves, but I've decided it's impossible.)

I think the phrase "Share a House", when in the context of a list of classifieds, is somehow unappealing or makes me think of images of the sort of situation where a family advertises a room for a student to use.... perhaps with cheap rent but added housekeeping and child-care responsibilities. Is there a more punchy/bohemian add title you guys can use?

Oooh, that's a good idea. Maybe our next ad will be titled "BOHEMIAN EXTRAVAGANZA" (-:

We did actually have one guy call and say, "I was just thinking to myself, 'I want to live in a big house with lots of people,' and then I saw your ad!"

That might be five more calls than the $550 apartment ad had.
