life and death on south plymouth avenue

on our street
a man died today

in the bright morning
family gathered outside,
loitered in pantomime

wiping tears
laughing

they stood for hours

i smiled meekly, waved.
dave gave a hug
we drank our coffee

the air is chilled now
but the days are bright and clear
