the best thing until vat grown steaks!

Russian scientists have developed a product that can keep a person drunk, Britain’s Daily Telegraph wrote. The tablet called RU-21 Red was developed in Spirit Sciences, a laboratory based in California but with research facilities in Russia. The same scientists had earlier worked on secret programs for the Kremlin and had made the famous RU-21 product that cures hangovers. If you take a tablet you need less alcohol to stay drunk, the scientists were quoted by the paper as saying. “RU-21 Red prolongs drunkenness and enhances intoxication,” the company co-founder, Emil Chiabery, born in the ex-Soviet republic of Georgia said. http://www.mosnews.com/news/2005/02/21/drunkremedy.shtml via Aimee.

I WANT TO WORK FOR THIS COMPANY.

P.s. I am hereby the first on Google record to use the phrase "intoxication enhancement"!

Now all they need to do is invent a pill made of 5000 proof ethanol. Then you could just pop two pills and be in good (er, bad) shape for the night.

The article is confusingly written, but the point is that they've developed a new pill that enhances intoxication. The pill that reduces hangovers is old news.

Yeah, I got that. Maybe those Vodka-guzzling Russians need something to make up for their tolerance to the stuff.

And pretty much everyone I've talked to who has been in that country for a while has said that people there do drink a whole lot of vodka.

How long until that's approved here?

Doesn't need approval

Because it's a dietary supplement. It's one of those few times where I think we need just a bit more gov't regulation..."supplement industry"

I like the name.

RU-21 = "are you 21?"

What exactly is "enhanced intoxication"? Is it just prolonged or do you start to see stuff, play pool better or perhaps fail to piss yourself?

This also opens up a whole new group of mixed drinks:

Bartender: What'll you have?
Guy: Two Red-eyes
Guy2: Red Rum for me.
Girl: Sex on the Beach with a 21 year old please!
Girl2: RU-Tom Colins.
Girl3: A Bombay Saphire...
Bartender: RU-21 Red?
Girl3: They checked my id at the door, and I'm a blonde actually!
