mexico -- ryan (four) and i were just discussing it on the way home from the grocery store! yes, it's definitely a go, in one form or another. any research you could do would certainly help.
I'm thinking of driving to La Paz (Baja California Sur) and taking the ferry to Mazatlan, driving up in the mainland, entering the U.S. again around Tucson. The question is whether this is feasible and not 100% crazy. We don't want to be driving all the time, and you can't drive at night and the winter days are short. I'm thinking of leaving as soon after christmas as possible, and Ryan and I have to be back at school on January 12. So we have about two weeks.
If that is too crazy, we can do a more limited version. One possibility is to drive to El Paso, TX and turn right down into Chihuahua to the Copper Canyon national park.
If limited to a weekend we could go to the Canon de Guadalupe hot springs, visit San Felipe.
Other schemes, like flying to Belize or the Yucatan, should also be considered.
I recommend going to the public library and checking out their collection of mexico books. The People's Guide to Mexico is excellent general mexico travel info but some info about specific places to go is needed too. Such as, where are the hot springs? (-:
I plan to take the Vanagon.. if we have any more people (than you, diane, ryan, and me) then we should probably have a 2nd vehicle. It's a manual transmission vehicle, so being able to drive manual will be helpful.
