messing about in boats

I just dug up some photographs of when we tomsawyered the rhone, floating down the Rhone river from Geneva, Switzerland to the French border. (That's Kenny Jensen [[livejournal.com profile] kennyjensen] and Adam Kocoloski in most of the pictures, and me and Matt Staver [[livejournal.com profile] ankaerith] in one of them -- that picture is actually from a second tomsawyering.) I'd also like to note that there's a whole lot of hilarity wrapped up in that "and then we went home with the band" reference. I wish I wrote about it at the time-- but maybe I can find a photo of 15 people in the Berlingo for starters.

step 1: inflate the raft

step 2: take the bus to the river

step 3: embarc upon the voyage

step 4: navigate

(enjoy the ride)

success!

so you know [livejournal.com profile] ankaerith in person, then!

i have been puzzled lately by the number of people on my friends list who are tied to one another through other people i am not friends with.

how mysterious.

Interesting...

While at Berkeley with Tobin, I came to discover a phenomenon that was aptly dubbed two degrees of Tobin. Oddly enough, I could connect to nearly anyone at Cal, through Tobin, with often as little as two degrees. Sometimes it took three degrees, good to know it is holding true on LJ as well.

I see you are friends with [livejournal.com profile] inertiacrept, and I'm guessing that is because of [livejournal.com profile] techieguru, but how do you know Tobin?

i was bored and looking for people with similar interests on LJ one day. and tobin and i both like seismology, so i added him.

i don't actually know tobin in real life. LJ's like that.

oh, and yes, [livejournal.com profile] inertiacrept was through <lj user="techieguru", though it's become somewhat of a bone of contention and we try to pretend that's not the connection.

I think it should be mentioned that this fine craft has a name: Artemis. So...... elegant... and.......legit!!

Someday I will add notes on R2's TomSawyering of the Colorado R in the Swayback Maru and then subsequently the American (or was it the Sacramento?) River. The first trip was exciting and something like what you'd see in an SUV commercial. The 2nd involved a lot of gnats, snags in the slow moving river, and steamy temperatures.
