My cousin's husband came back with some of the reservists...he was there for a long time. They told him he'd be there for 6 years?! Hopefully this country can stop being so terroristic and save up our ridiculous military spending for more useful purposes.

You're on Kevin's friends list, so I don't know you or your brother, but: Godspeed.

Thinking about him...

the latest:

I just had a call--caller ID said Chicago. I thought, crank call, maybe I won't pick it up.

It was Eric. He's now in Kuwait.
It's presently 0012:30 there (just after midnight.) The temperature is 90 F.

I took notes during the conversation. Here is the latest:

He was put on commercial flights all the way. His travel time was about 29 hours.

One of his sea bags (duffel bags) was lost, the one containing all his combat gear, ie Kevlar jacket, ceramic plates, camelback, and all the chapstick and sunscreen we loaded him up with (about 15 chapstiks!)

He has filled out some forms and let the authorities know about the missing stuff. They told him it may show up.

He is to check in at 0500 to see if there are any flights to his base in Iraq, though he was told that there probably isn't so he will be waiting until there is.

I reiterated that he should make a fuss, or at least ask lots of questions to make sure that he gets outfitted before they send him.
He said that he can't do any work if he doesn't have his protective gear.

Currently his accommodations are a tent and a cot (together with a lot of other Marines.)

And that's all for now, folks.
