Outside of Wurster:

A gizmo near Wurster:

Women's Faculty Club:
Senior Hall
From the Loafer's Guide: Senior (1906)-This building is now officially called Senior Hall, though it was originally Golden Bear Lodge, then Senior Men's Hall. It is a beautifully designed log cabin originally used for student activities, including Senior Singing, and now used for various events. I had been told that this building had a secret entrance, but only recently have I discovered what it is, and where it leads.
2243
A wooden building, apparently known only as "2243."
Haas School through the trees:
Wurster Hall:
Which of course reminds me of an old saying: "They say that Evans is the worst building on campus, but another is Wurster." I happen to like it. See that overhang? It's the wizard's keep.
I think the gizmo is my favorite. Or maybe the wooden building.

yay!
Recently I've been thinking about taking a "tour" of the campus and taking pictures of all of the buildings and interesting sights. Is this kind of what you're doing here?

Re: yay!
I think the Loafer's Guide is awesome.
So what's your plan?
Re: yay!
I have a few ideas, though. I think it would be fun to go around and photograph "secret places." We could do it along various themes, as given in the Loafer's Guide.
For instance, I just printed out the Guide and went out and took pictures of the latin inscriptions on campus until the camera battery ran out. A nice sequence could be the "life and times of strawberry creek" (trace the creek's path on campus).. murals of berkeley.. big buildings.. lesser known buildings.. distinctive trees. physical plant (steam tunnel, cogen plant, etc).
I have some ideas for putting all this together, which I'll write about later.
Re: yay!
- the co-op houses
- the greek houses
maybe even:
- wing-nuts! (crazy people on campus)
Re: yay!
It would also be cool to include pictures of the dorms (like Bowles..) and the soccer fields, the stadium, Haas pavilion and so on. I was also thinking of large classrooms like Pimentel (a good panorama candidate, actually).
Re: yay!
I have an idea for a web interface where someone could submit pictures by clicking on a campus map to show where the picture was taken, and then uploading the picture. Then a user can click somewhere on the map and get the n closest views.
It can be extended a little bit by having the uploader click twice — once where the picture was taken from and again where the camera was pointed. We could sort-of automatically generate weak 360 degree views from this.
It can be extended to allow all sorts of items to be added to the database. Descriptive text, like the entries from the Loafer's Guide. URLS to organisations housed in various buildings. Web cams. I can even tell you who is in the CSUA office (http://soda.csua.berkeley.edu/~tobin/ruptime/ruptime.cgi) in Soda hall, for instance. Even overheard conversations can be linked in (from inpassing.org). It will be beautiful.
Another thing I was thinking of (perhaps as an alternative) is to just have a UC Berkeley wiki with an entry for every building. There people can enter their memories and various factoids.
Btw, I remembered some places that should be photographed:
- Lawson Adit
- The nuclear reactor room in Etcheverry Hall (now empty, but it used to be flooded with water for shielding). Historical pictures would be great.

(Reading the hint between the lines: can you take one or more and post photos of there?)

I've got a few photos of Bowles somewhere, let's see if I can dig them up...
