I think groceries and rent are cheap here, but services, restaurants, energy, etc are more expensive. In day-to-day life I sort of assume $1 = 1€,... which makes things seem expensive when I do the proper conversion.
Also, Germany in general just feels rich a bit rich despite people not appearing to work very hard. This also somehow (psychologically) makes the € feel like a "harder" currency.
