H&R block

H&R block has decided to start charging for access to past years' tax returns:

"Our H&R Block Free Edition customers don't get free storage. But you can still access your prior-year return.

2008 return Only $9.95"

Jerks.

is it "passed years" "or past years"?

They allow me to access my 2006 return for free, but not the 2007 or 2008. What asses!

I've always used TaxAct. (http://www.taxact.com/tax-preparation/) They offer a for-download version of their free basic package that has worked just fine for me, and I like that I have everything local. You have to pay up ($13) if you want the deluxe version that will import your prior year's return (and give you pointless advice), but I've been happy with them for several years now.

maaaaaaaaaaan what a bunch of...

I don't like to be one of those anticapitalist hippies but it's shit like this that makes me upset that you can't just deal directly with the government in question. "We won't file your taxes for you, but please feel free to visit one of these many vendors!" What sort of lobbyist bullshit led us to this system?

TAXES YES!!

H&R Block can suck it. If you have enough lee-way time (it says 'allow two weeks for delivery,' but I'd allow more if you can) you ought to be able to request this for free from the IRS.

CA seems to charge $20 for it... oh Franchise Tax Board. I love you, but sometimes you tick me off. Especially when you continue to not hire me. LA taxes, I have no idea...or wherever you were before. Google search ought to help you.
